Annawan School District gets perfect score

The Annawan School Board received praise for the district’s audit report at Wednesday’s regular board meeting.

Board members approved the 2021 audit report as presented by Tim Custis of Gorenz & Associates, LTD, Peoria.

Superintendent Matt Nordstrom commented, “We are proud of our District in having received a 4.0, which is the highest financial profile score.”

This is the third consecutive year for Annawan to receive a perfect score on the audit.

In other business, Greg Wertheim, director of the Henry-Stark Counties Special Education District, was at the meeting to explain how the cooperative is set up to meet the needs of the eight schools in Henry County which it serves. He said working as a cooperative lowers costs for services for the participating schools.

The board also:

-Approved the 2022 Risk Management Plan.

-Approved early graduation (December, 2021) for Liliana Gallardo providing she fulfills all necessary graduation requirements.

-Approved hiring Brad Hulick as junior high boys’ basketball head coach and Bob Shrum as junior high boys’ basketball assistant coach.

-Approved hiring Anthony Dearing as high school head softball coach.

-Approved the retirement of Lisa Spivey, fourth grade teacher, at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 school year.
