Leavenworth police are investigating a stabbing after a wounded man was dropped off at a hospital early this morning.

The 44-year-old stabbing victim arrived at Saint Luke's Cushing Hospital, 711 Marshall St., around 2:30 a.m. The Leavenworth man had been stabbed in the chest and had more than one wound, said Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

The victim was airlifted to a Kansas City area hospital. Nicodemus said the man's injuries are considered to be serious, but the wounds are not believed to be life threatening.

"We don't have a lot of information right now," Nicodemus said.

The deputy chief said investigators don't know where the stabbing occurred but think it happened in the city. They also do not have a suspect.

He said police tried to speak with the victim but officers weren't able to get a lot of information.

"Obviously, medical treatment was first priority," Nicodemus said.

He said police will be following up with the victim to obtain more information. How soon police will be able to speak with him will be determined by his condition.
