Police investigating break-in, arson attempt at Galva Florist
The Galva Police Department was called Tuesday afternoon to the Galva Florist, 900 S.E. Second St., for a burglary complaint.
Upon arrival, the police officer learned an unknown person/persons entered the building sometime over night and took several hundred dollars in cash, broke several items inside the business, spray painted on walls and set a fire before leaving the business.
Many of the flowers in the building were destroyed due to the heat from the fire. The building received smoke damage, however the structure did not actually catch fire.
The Galva Police Department requested the assistance of an arson investigator from the state fire marshal's office, as well as the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, for scene processing.
The case remains under investigation. If anyone has any information about this incident, please call the Galva Police Department at (309) 932-3911 or the Henry County Sheriff's Office non-emergency line at (309) 937-3911.
