Shari Flagg, principal of C.R. Hanna Elementary School, has resigned.

Flagg is to be the new principal of Estes Elementary School in Owensboro, Ky. She will replace Walter Lee, who is retiring.

Located on the east side of Owensboro, the school has about 380 students in kindergarten through fourth grade.

“We are moving to be closer to our family,” Flagg said. “The students, staff and community of C.R. Hanna will be greatly missed. The Orion community has been very supportive, and I have enjoyed my time here.”

After teaching in Mattoon, Hinesville, Ga., and Henderson, Ky., Flagg became C.R. Hanna’s principal three years ago.

“Mrs. Flagg has served the district well over the past three years,” Superintendent Don Achelpohl said. “Not only has the elementary school continued to have high test scores, but she headed up our K-12 staff development and worked very closely with the Teachers Teaching Teachers area institute that Orion Community School District hosts.

“Her focus has always been on what is best for students, and she was a collaborative team builder whether working with her staff or as a member of the administrative team,” Achelpohl continued. “We wish her the best, but she will be missed.”
