Galva boy shines at state fair
Chris North of the Walnut Grove Progressors 4-H Club in Altona won a “Superior” award at the Illinois State Fair for his project, “Exploring Our Food Heritage.”
North made Swedish Spice cookies, “Peppar Kakors,” then selected the best ones and took them to the fair, held last month in Springfield.
At the fair, entrants are interviewed by a judge who samples their product and examines it for appearance and integrity. Entrants explain the process of making the entry and other particulars.
Entrants are also judged on a menu they prepare featuring their entry. Chris prepared a Swedish menu that included lutefisk, mashed potatoes, potato sausage, green beans, bond ost, Swedish rye bread, lingonberry gelatin and the Peppar Kakors.
A sixth grader at Galva Elementary School, Chris is the son of David and Mary Kay North, Galva. He’s been in 4-H three years.
