Galva school gym repairs could be costly
Carol Townsend
Supt. Doug O’Riley reported a bit of bad news to the Galva School Board on July 21: The elementary school gym floor needs repairs – at a cost of perhaps $200,000.
O’Riley said he was recently told that the floor was not put down correctly and that water has seeped under the floor, causing damage.
In other business:
• Don Daily, a retired superintendent from Monmouth, was hired for $4,000 a year to mentor ORiley during O’Riley’s first year.
Such mentorships are now mandatory, per Illinois State Board of Education standards.
The mentorship is scheduled to last just one year.
The board also approved Tammy Ringberg as part-time custodian and Crystal Lucas as elementary school assistant cook.
