1% school tax issue will greet Knox County voters at polls

Eric Timmons/GateHouse News Service

Knox County voters will decide in November if they support paying an extra one percentage point in sales taxes to fund local school districts.

The Knox County Board on July 28 approved putting the referendum question on the ballot in the fall.

The tax could only be used to pay down debts or fund construction projects.

Proceeds from the tax would be distributed among the five districts in Knox County based on their size, with Galesburg School District 205 getting the majority of the money.
