Moving parked cars helps snow removal, avoids citation

DOUG BOOCK
Three men try to pry a car loose from a snow drift in the northeast part of Galva during a Feb. 2, 2011 snowstorm.

Galva residents are reminded that it's illegal to park vehicles and trailers on curb and gutter streets in the city within eight hours after a snowfall of one inch or more, unless the snow has been plowed or otherwise removed from the street.

Parking on non-curb and gutter streets that will impair snow removal by city personnel is also a violation of city ordinances.

If the street is not cleared of snow within the eight hours, the no-parking restriction continues until the snow is removed from the street.

Violators are subject to towing at the owner's expense, and citations may be issued.
