Kids basketball clinic, tour of school part of Falk event
Galva School District officials have announced the schedule of events for Saturday, Aug. 10, when the Galva Elementary School gym floor will be renamed in Rich Falk's honor.
A dedication ceremony renaming the floor "Rich Falk Court" will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Galva Elementary gym.
Included in the brief ceremony will be announcement of some biographical information about Falk – Galva High School's all-time leading scorer in basketball. He also led the state in scoring his senior year, 1959-1960, and later both starred as a player and coached at Northwestern University.
Falk will speak at the event.
"The public is welcome to attend, and we hope that many of Mr. Falk's friends and family will be able to attend," Galva Supt. Doug O'Riley said.
The Galva Elementary gym floor is the site of the renaming because it is the former Galva High School court on which Falk starred and became known around the state.
Prior to the ceremony, at 10:30 a.m., Falk will conduct a youth basketball clinic in the gym, for students entering grades 4-6.
At the clinic, kids will have an opportunity to meet Mr. Falk and receive a few tips for success on the court. Admission is free and registration is not necessary.
Also during the day, from noon to 1 p.m., Galva Elementary will be open for tours by any alumni who attended the school when it was Galva High School.
