Death confirmed in rural Galva auto accident


A 21-year-old Galva man died today after his auto collided with a semi truck on Route 34 west of Galva.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office released a press release late this afternoon confirming that a fatality had occurred in the mishap, which occurred about 1:07 p.m. about two or three miles west of Galva, near county road 1850 E. The accident was east of the Route 34 turnoff to Bishop Hill.

According to the sheriff's office, the deceased, whose name has not been released pending family notification, was driving a Chevrolet Monte Carlo eastbound on Route 34 when his car collided with the westbound semi. Authorities did not say which, if either vehicle, crossed the center line. The semi driver's name was not released.

The Henry County Coroner's office pronounced the 21-year-old dead at the scene.

Sheriff's deputies were assisted by Galva police, Galva and Bishop Hill fire fighters and Stark County Ambulance Service.

The accident remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.
