Lester 'Arnie' Hanson obituary

Lester “Arnie” Hanson, 77, of Galva, died at 3:53 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016 at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.

He was born June 30, 1938 in Kewanee, the son of Lester and Minerva (Lindbom) Hanson.

He married Doris Johnson on Oct. 9, 1965 in Victoria. She survives, as do three daughters, Lisa (Bob) Sieghartner of Coal Valley, Laura of Falls Church, Va. and Lynn Dillender of Galva; two granddaughters, Madison and Alexa Dillender of Galva; and his sister, Diane (John) Conner of Galesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carol Hanson.

Arnie graduated from Galva High School in 1956.

He was an Army veteran, having served in Korea.

He had worked at Folger Auctioneer Service and as a machinist at Best Manufacturing until his retirement.

He played fast-pitch softball for Altona and Bishop Hill and bowled at East Gate Lanes. From 1983 to 2007, Arnie served as basketball scorebook keeper, football announcer, helped with the football chain gang and assisted Dale Collis with track meets. He had been an active member of the Galva Athletic Boosters, having served as their president and vice president. He was inducted into the Galva Wall of Fame in 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Ann Champion will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers.

Memorials may be directed to the Galva Wall of Fame or to the Honor Flight.
