Frigid temps, rain and snow likely this weekend

Freezing rain and snow are expected this weekend as temperatures drop.

Daryl Onton, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Lincoln, said Tuesday he was projecting a low temperature of 4 degrees that night followed by a high of 21 degrees today. It then will dip down to 3 degrees tonight, with a projected high of 12 degrees Thursday.

But wind chills Thursday morning will bring what the temperature feels like down to -10 degrees, with winds between 10 and 15 mph.

Galesburg does "have a chance of snow starting on Friday. Friday night into Saturday temperatures will (rise) ... may even see snow change to some freezing rain and sleet by Saturday morning and then it should be changing back over to snow by Saturday afternoon," Onton said.

From there, temperatures could drop to below zero Saturday night into Sunday, with normal winter temperatures returning early next week.

"Probably another couple cold days, but then moderating for a bit. It doesn't look like we will see a prolonged cold pattern into next week," Onton said.
