Construction of Cambridge fire station begins

Morton Builders, Inc. of Morton, with a branch office in Atkinson, started construction of the new $1.49 million Cambridge fire station at the end of last week.

By  Monday morning, Oct. 11, a shell was taking shape. above: Morton employees set some of the roof trusses on the end of of the new building.

The single story-post-frame, brick and steelclad building will be approximately 15,300 square feet. The building is planned to have three “high-bay” vehicle storage areas including a large fire apparatus bay, an ambulance garage and a police car garage.

The remainder of the facility will house a public meeting room, a kitchen, public restrooms and emergency communications room. There will also be some offices, storage rooms, a laundry room and restrooms with showers for the firemen.
