On Friday morning, May 6, Rick Gillis of Orion is driving a 26-foot truck loaded with donations for tornado victims down to Alabama.

The company that he works for is donating the use of the truck, but he is paying the expenses out of his own pocket.

Tiffani Wallarab of Orion has been helping Gillis collect items to fill the trailer. Gills has friends and Wallarab has family in the devastated area.

Notes went home in Friday folders for students at C.R. Hanna Elementary School, Orion. Wallarab will be at C.R. Hanna on Thursday afternoon, May 5, to work with teachers and Orion High School students as they box up the donations for Glliis.

Anyone wishing to donate items may leave them at C.R. Hanna on Thursday afternoon, or leave them on Wallarab's front porch at 1002 14th Avenue B, Orion.

To make other arrangements for leaving donations, phone Wallarab at (309) 91201438, or Gillis at (309) 526-8619.

Donations will be accepted until Thursday night. Gillis plans to leave Orion at 6 a.m. Friday morning.

Cash donations will help Gillis with expenses, and also help tornado victims and their families.
