Schools busy even in summer

Tom Akers

Summer is heating up in Cambridge and so are the activities at the school. I would like to give you a few updates on what is going on here at the school.

First, we would like to welcome aboard Ms. Sunny Letterle, who will be teaching junior high English, and Mr. Joe DeGeorge, who will be teaching high school English.

Secondly, the Board of Education has approved the installation of new lights in both gymnasiums and the installation of occupancy sensors. Both of these will provide more efficient lighting and save the district money.

Thirdly, we are welcoming the community to an open forum on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, to tour the buildings and to provide the Board of Education your feedback regarding the potential installation of a geothermal system in the elementary school. We would also like to present the 2010 district goals and gain your input on what we can do to make Cambridge schools better.

Finally, the coop sports programs are playing together throughout the summer, including volleyball, girls basketball, and boys basketball, and the players are getting to know each other and are working hard to get ready for the upcoming seasons.

I would like to remind the community Aug. 10, 11, and 12 will be school registration, and Aug. 15 is the Ridgewood Spartan Open golf tournament at Valley View Country Club.

I hope you all enjoy your summer.
