Men's golf teams hunt for playoff spots

June 24 marked the ninth week of league action for the Valley View men’s league. As the temperatures warm up, so are the scores.

Blade Trucking kept in the playoff hunt with 131 to 145 win behind Jeff DePorter’s net 32. A balanced attack led by George Shaw’s net 33 paced DeGroots to a 136 to 138 victory over Johnson Construction.

A net 31 from Ernie Gerlach helped Skellos remain unblemished with a 131 to 136 grilling of Robbies.

In Wednesday night action, Gary Stahl’s net 31 led Orion Tool and Die over Gold Star FS 143 to 150. Little Johns threw a scare into undefeated Phillips, but fell short 140 to 141 as a net 32 from Chad nelson helped Phillips prevail.

Jarrod Casteel shot a net 29 as Duricks bumped Hepner Insurance 133 to 141. Darling International, led by Mike Galliart’s net 31, processed Bell Insurance 137 to 148.

The Faculty and Cambridge played to a 133 tie, but the fifth player tie-breaker went to the Faculty to keep their division lead. Cambridge Commodities won by default as Highland Pak couldn’t field a full squad.

With five weeks to the playoffs standings are as follows: Cambridge Pattern, 5-4; The Faculty, 5-4; Skellos, 9-0 and Phillips 9-0 are division leaders.

In the hunt for the four playoff spots are Duricks and Hepner Insurance with records of 6-3 and DeGroots and Blade Trucking with records of 5-4. There are four more teams with records of 4-5.
