Orion golfers edge AlWood

Orion claimed a 189-192 victory over AlWood in varsity golf on Monday, Aug. 25, at Kewanee Dunes.

Coach John McBride’s Chargers improved to 1-4 with the win on the former Midland Country Club course.

Lucas Grymonprez led Orion with a 44.

During the quadrangular, United Township defeated Orion 174-189 and Elmwood-Brimfield outshot Orion 163-189.

Scoring for the Chargers were Grymonprez; Jim Hills, 46; Devin Pettifer, 48; and Alex Gombert, 51.

Also playing were Travis Fritz, 52, and Jake Dahl, 53.

The Chargers had no birdies in nine holes. Pettifer and Grymonprez parred three holes; Hills, two; and Fritz and Gombert, one.

Orion’s season opener was Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Pinnacle Country Club, Milan.

Sherrard topped Orion 179-199, and Rockridge beat Orion 191-199.

Pettifer was the Charger medalist with a 45.

Also chipping in to the Orion score were Hills, 50, and Grymonprez and Kyle Hoffman, 52.

Gombert shot 55 and Dahl 57.

The Chargers had no birdies. They parred at least eight holes. Pettifer recorded ehtree pars; Hills and Gombert, two; and Dahl, one. Hoffman’s hole-by-hole scores were not available.
