Golfers play in rain

Andrew Frew

The Cambridge High School golf team had quite a vigorous schedule last week following their Monday meet at home. They had two more meets and played one of those in the rain.

On Wednesday, August 27, the golf team traveled to Wethersfield. The team faced off against the new co-op between Wethersfield-Annawan and Morrison. It was a regular meet with none of the teams having any outstanding shots. In the end of that meet, Wethersfield-Annawan  won by fourteen strokes.

The next day the team traveled to Bureau Valley and played at the Deer Valley course. Orion also attended that meet to fill the triangular. The meet was upset though by the rain. The meet was not canceled because there was no lightning so the players took to the course, and played through the rain. The team had never played in the rain, making the meet harder than what it should have been according to Coach Jay Wiechmann. Orion ended up taking the win at the end by just three strokes.

“It was a long, wet week for the golf team,” Coach Wiechmann stated. “I think we will see improvement in next weeks meet.”

The golf team will play on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Prophetstown. They also have a home meet Wednesday, Sept. 10, with Galva.
