Galva tops Bulldogs in fresh-soph opener

The Galva-Williamsfield fresh-soph football team opened its season with an 18-14 win over AlWood-ROWVA on Sept. 2 in Oneida.

Trailing 14-12, the Wildcats took the ball after a punt with three minutes remaining and marched 55 yards down to the A-R one.

Quarterback Jake McClintic then kept the ball on a keeper  and scored with 16 seconds remaining, giving the Wildcats the win.

McClintic and Kile Mott combined on a 40-yard scoring pass play in the second quarter as Galva led at the half, 6-0.

The Bulldogs tied the game at 6-6 in the third quarter before the Wildcats answered on a 35-yard touchdown run by Matt Johnson, giving the visitors a 12-6 lead.

A-R took the lead, at 14-12, in the fourth quarter on a scoring pass play and conversion run. The two teams then traded possessions before Galva got one more chance, following a punt.
