Galva’s Tauge Rux tees off during a recent dual match. Rux shot an 87 to win fourth place in the Lincoln Trail Conference Railsplitter Classic last week.

The AlWood-ROWVA boys golf team captured the Lincoln Trail Rail Splitter championship Oct. 1 at Valley View Golf Course, Cambridge.

The Bulldogs tied with West Central at 352, but won the tiebreaker to take the win.

Nolan Zellman paced A&R with an 86 for a third-place individual finish.

“I am real proud of the kids,” said A&R coach Dick Behringer. “They had Valley View set up very hard. The best example was No. 18. It was about 590 yards and they were hitting into a 20-plus mile per hour wind. It had to be like hitting in Wrigley Field with the wind blowing out.”

Also placing in the top 10 for the Bulldogs were Caleb Seibert and Brian Norberg, who both shot 88, and Ethan Francis and Cody Reiber, who both carded 90.

“This win was like our whole season,” Behringer said. “West Central tied our top four scores, then our fifth player pulled it out for us. Our No. 5 shot a 90 and their’s a 105.

“This is what has made our team successful this year because all six golfers have been within five or six strokes of each other,” Behringer said.

Tauge Rux paced Galva with an 87 and a fourth-place finish.

On the girls side, the Bulldogs scored a 483 to place second behind Aledo’s 457 winning total.

Sawyer Baker and Jordan Nelson led A&R with a 118 for a fifth-and-sixth-place individual finish.
