Nelson, Cahill join sectional field
The AlWood-ROWVA girls golf team advanced two players to this week’s Aledo Class 1A Sectional.
The Bulldogs’ Jordan Nelson, a freshman, and Jaclyn Cahill, a senior, shot rounds of 122 and 123, respectively, in the Orion Regional, held Oct. 8 at Valley View Golf Course in Cambridge.
Aledo won the team championship with a 452 while Rockridge was second at 467 and Canton third at 429.
Knoxville’s Abby Ball fired an 80 to claim medalist honors.
“Both Jordan and Jaclyn have worked hard and improved throughout the season,” said A&R coach Dick Behringer.
“Jordan has had to fight through some elbow problems, but has proved she can play good,” he added. “I hope she keeps improving. I think she has the potential of being one of the better golfers we have seen this year.”
Cahill advanced to her third sectional tournament.
“Jaclyn has been a positive team leader and I am glad she made sectional,” Behringer said.
Galva golfers participating at the Orion regional included Rachel Jeffries (142) and Emily Swanson (155).
