Golfers wrap up season at regionals

Andrew Frew

As the golf season began to wrap itself up, the golfers had one final test, the regionals.

The boys played at Monmouth Tuesday, Oct. 7, but were sent home after nine holes because of inclement weather.

On Thursday, Oct. 9, the boys went back Monmouth where they would restart a very long tournament. The weather was beautiful and it was a good day for golfing. The team played at Gibson Woods which is filled with narrow courses and many trees.

In the regional tournament, participants played 18 holes, double the amount required at the most meets throughout the season.

Chase Maertens would lead the day with a score of 120. None of the CHS golfers advanced to sectionals.

Wednesday, Oct. 8, Courtney Smith, the solo female Cambridge golfer, played in the girl regional.

Unlike the boys, Smith found herself with a beautiful day, and she didn’t have to travel since the regional was at Valley View Club. Orion was the host of the event so Smith golfed on her home field. After 18 holes, Smith ended the season with a 138, short of going on to sectionals.

CHS golfers played a long, good season. Most of the team will return in the fall of 2009 except for the three senior golfers, Brinton Vincent, Chase Maertens and Andrew Prevost.
