Two Chargers run in top 10

Orion Chargers Megan Miller and Luke Owens had top-10 finishes at the Rocket Booster Invitational on Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Edgington.
Bad weather had forced Rockridge to cancel the meet on its original date.
“We had all the trophies and medals ordered, and we were going to have to eat them,” Rockridge Athletic Director Scott Striegel said.
Several of the same schools were supposed to run at Orion on Oct. 8. Striegel, formerly the Orion A.D., got in touch with Charger coach Scott Briney.
Briney agreed to cancel Orion’s only home event of the year so Rockridge could hold its meet.
“Scott’s a great guy,” Striegel said.
In the girls race, Shelbie Pettie of Sherrard placed first in 20:15.0.
She finished 1 minute and 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Codee Pedersen of Rockridge.
Miller was fourth at 22:40.
Also scoring for Orion were Jamie Harrington, 17th, 24:13; Brooke Bush, 22nd, 24:59; Kayla Descamps, 25th, 25:15; and Morgan Martin, 32nd, 27:03.
Shannon Gambon came in 36th at 28:57.
Rockridge topped the team standings with 31 points, followed by Sherrard, 52; AlWood-ROWVA, 58; and Orion, 87.
Individuals from Aledo and Kewanee also ran.
Allen Nelson of Kewanee won the boys race in 17:46.

Other Chargers in the race were Darrin Bohl, 28th, 21:49; John Fielding, 32nd, 22:09; and Chris Schmidt, 36th, 22:37.
