Chargers win season finale

Orion put an exclamation point on the regular season with a 66-43 thrashing of Rockridge in varsity boys basketball on Friday, Feb. 20.

The Chargers boosted their record to 25-4 overall, 11-1 in the Olympic Conference.

They were to play the Cambridge Vikings in regional semifinals on Wednesday, Feb. 25, in Orion.

A win would put the Chargers in the regional championship game at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27.

Friday’s contest was close in the first half. Orion edged visitors Rockridge 11-10 in the first period.

A 16-12 advantage in the second gave the Chargers a 27-22 lead at intermission.

Orion built its cushion to eight points by scoring 15 points in the third period while holding Rockridge to 12.

In the fourth, the Chargers blasted the Rockets with 24 points. The visitors managed only nine themselves.

Three Chargers finished in double figures. Lucas Grymonprez and Josh Hutton tallied 15 points each and Cody Williams, 13.

Matt Knoll and Jared Simmer tossed in five points apiece; Ian Cooper, Tyler DeDecker and Caleb Nesbitt, four each; and Ted Leuck, one.

Hutton rifled in all three of the Orion triples.

Rockridge connected five times from beyond the arc.

At the free-throw line, Orion made nine of 18 attempts. Williams shot 1-for-1; Simmer, 3-for-4; Nesbitt, 2-for-3; and Leuck, 1-for-2.

Rockridge spun in eight of 11 freebies.

Orion committed 16 fouls and Rockridge, 19.
