Chargers chosen for All-Conference team
Olympic coaches unanimously elected four Orion Chargers to the All-Conference baseball team.
Selected were seniors Josh Hutton and Cody Williams, junior James Matson and sophomore Trevor Peterson.
Senior Ian Cooper received honorable mention.
At the Chargers’ postseason banquet, Matson picked up plaques for Most Outstanding Player, Most Outstanding Pitcher, Most Outstanding Hitter, and Coaches Award.
His batting average was .442, his on-base percentage was .556 and his slugging percentage was .628. He drew 22 walks and scored 39 runs.
As a pitcher, Matson had a 6-2 record with four complete games. He worked 45 2/3 innings in 14 appearances.
Matson had a 2.45 earned-run average. He collected 50 strikeouts while issuing only 12 walks.
When not on the mound, he was in the outfield.
Hutton also received the Most Outstanding Pitcher award.
He compiled a 7-2 record with two saves and four complete games. Over 55 2/3 innings,
Hutton’s ERA?was 2.39. He whiffed 55 batters.
He played shortstop when he was not on the mound.
Hutton hit .326 with a .437 on-base percentage.
Williams pitched and played first base.
He had a 3-4 record with two saves and two complete games. Three of his losses were in one-run games.
In 49 innings, he had an ERA?of 2.57. He struck out 48.
At the plate, he hit .359 with an on-base percentage of .421. He notched 27 RBIs.
Peterson held down the hot corner at third base, where his fielding percentage was .940.
He hit .359 and had an on-base percentage of .425.
Cooper spelled Williams at first base and also saw time in the outfield.
He had a batting average of .312 and an on-base percentage of .396. He drove in 26 runs.
Players who were unanimous All-Conference selections included seniors Donnie Rose and Ethan Wagler of Farmington, junior Kyle Rettig of Rockridge and junior Logan Frey of Sherrard.
Macomb Bombers receiving unanimous votes for All-Conference were seniors Davis Hendrickson, Mike Pendergast, Kendall Hocker and Brett Glaser and sophomore Seth Wickert.
Unanimous selections from Monmouth-Roseville were seniors Tanner Schreck, Nick Leary and Shane Creighton and junior Bryant Salyers.
Rounding out the All-Conference team were senior Jake Flater and junior Mitch Goveia of Rockridge and senior Austin Johnson of Sherrard.
On the honorable mention list were senior Austin Sears of Macomb, senior Blaine Robinson of Monmouth-Roseville and juniors Austin Hamerlinck and Zach Miller of Sherrard.
