Boys track records highlights at sectional
The AlWood-Cambridge boys track team went to Sherrard Sectional Friday, May 22. The A/C team placed 14th out of 16 teams in attendance.
“There was a lot of fierce competition at sectionals,” stated coach John Siebken. “But the boys took the challenge and found themselves with several highlighted moments.”
During the 100-meter preliminaries Brandon Wilkinson took ninth with a time of 11.80 and in the 200-meter dash preliminaries, he placed seventh with a time of 23.98. In the 200 finals, Wilkinson had a faster time of 23.87 and finished sixth overall.
Ian Roden placed 17th out of 25 in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.31 and Steven Lenertz took 18th out of 25 in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.17.
The team also did good in a couple of the relays. In the 400-meter relay, the team of Roden, Matt Spivey, Kyle Lookingbill and Cody Lanning received ninth place with a time of 3:55.50. Then in the 800-meter relay, the team of Roden, Lookingbill, Kevin Miller,and Chris Fox placed ninth.
Some highlights of field events included Cody Lanning of Alwood placing sixth in the men’s triple jump, with a distance of 38-03 3/4 and Steven Lenertz placing 13th in the high jump, clearing 5-3.Then, in the men’s shot put, freshman Ben Smith, placed ninth in the finals with a throw of 44-0 1/2.
“The team had had a very successful season, and all of their hard work paid off,” Siebken stated. “This is still a young team and even though they have room to grow, they have already built a steady foundation.”
