Kazubowski powers Galva2 in city battle

A strong effort by Trey Kazubowski led Galva2 over Galva1 5-0 in Pee Wee League baseball action at the Galva Park District on July 7.

Kazubowski struck out 10, walked only one and drove in all five runs in picking up the shutout win. Defensive plays by G2 first baseman Andy Schupbach helped preserve the shutout.

Galva1’s pitchers, Jarrod Cortes and Tyler Smith, combined for nine strikeouts, but walked seven, making control the difference in this contest.

G1 third baseman Cameron Meyer made a key play off the bat of Hunter Barrett to start the second inning. Cortes walked the next two but retired the side on strikeouts to end the threat.

With the based loaded and two out in the first, Kazubowski hit a towering shot to right center that plated four runs. Austin Celus lined a base hit to start the third inning and scored after consecutive walks.

The win evens the Galva2 record at 6-6.

Galva1, made up of mostly first-year players, finishes 2-10.

The season concludes the week of July 13-18 with the league tournament being held in Victoria.
