Pee Wees outlasted by Cambridge
Cambridge outlasted Galva2 in the Pee Wee League Tournament held last week in Victoria, 8-6.
“We dug ourselves into an early hole and couldn’t quite get out of it,” said Coach Mike Yepsen of his team and their bid to win in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Galva2 surrendered the maximum four runs per inning to Cambridge in each of the first two innings. Without giving up a hit, the Vikes scored on a combined six walks, two hit batsmen and two errors.
“These kids are really just now learning how to play the game," Yepsen said. "They battled back despite being down 4-0 and 8-4 after three innings.”
Galva2 scored four in the first to tie the game.
Austin Harper (walk), Hunter Barrett (walk), Austin Celus (single) and Michael DeSmit (single)
all scored for the Wildcats.
In the fourth the Cats added two more runs by Trey Kazubowski and Josh Jeffries leaving the score 8-6.
In the fifth, with the bases loaded and two outs, the game ended on a line drive catch.
“I’m very proud of all these kids. They have come a long way since our first practice back in May,” said Yepsen.
He added, “Galva baseball is on its way back,” noting that every player hit the ball in their last game.
Galva2 ended the season with seven wins and seven losses.
