Orion wins Erie tourney title

Riding the 24 points from tournament MVP Tanner Williams, the Orion Chargers thundered to a 53-37 win over the Riverdale Rams in the championship game of the Cliff Warkins Memorial Classic on Wednesday, Dec. 30, in Erie.

Charger Danny DeBacker joined Williams on the All-Tournament team.

Earlier in the day, Williams had been named the Area Pacesetter by the Dispatch and Rock Island Argus.

To battle Williams, DeBacker and the rest of the Chargers, the Rams put two All-Tournament players of their own on the floor. Between them, Tyler Smeltzly (20 points) and Wes DeClerq (10) scored almost all of their team’s points.
