Ridgewood volleyball players receive awards

Five varsity volleyball players earned awards during the year-end volleyball lock-in Friday, Nov. 2, at Cambridge High School. They are, from left, Katie Miller, Paige Wexell, Brooklyn Wexell, Caitie Allen and Molly Jo Smith.

Ridgewood volleyball players were honored at a year-end lock-in Friday, Nov. 2, at Cambridge High School.

Awards were presented during the evening.

Varsity plaque winners included: Brooklyn Wexell, most valuable and most digs; Caitie Allen, most improved player; Molly Jo Smith, Spartan Spirit and most blocks; Paige Wexell, most kills and Katie Miller, most assists and most aces.

Seven players were named to the Lincoln Trail Conference All-Academic Team. They were Allen, Taylor Brooks, Kylie Carey, Sabrina Medley, Miller, Haley Schmoll and Smith.

Wexell was named to the Lincoln Trail Conference First Team as a libero and Carey received honorable mention as a middle hitter.

Earning frosh-soph team awards were: Mady Smith, Spartan Spirit; Meridith Logston, most improved; Taylor Reed, most valuable player and most digs; Kristen Litton, most kills and most aces and Megan Reed, most assists and most blocks.

Freshman award winners included: Allison Meyer, most kills, most digs and most blocks and Catie Helle, most assists and most aces.

The year-end varsity stats were provided. The top five in each category will be reported.

Miller had 38 aces. Paige Wexell finished a close second with 37. Schmoll took third with 29; Carey, fourth with 26 and Brooks, fifth with 24. There were 181 digs for the year as a team.

Paige Wexell led the kills division with 86. Carey finished second with 79; Brooks, third with 63; Smith, fourth with 58 and Ashley Collins, fifth with 37. There were 359 kills for the year as a team.

Smith led the squad in blocks for the year with 39.5. Carey finished second with 31; Paige Wexell, third with 17; Collins, fourth with 6 and Miller, fifth with 3.5. The team had 101.5 blocks for the year.

Miller had 185 of the 241 assists. Brooks placed second with 26; Collins, third with eight; Kelsey Mansco, fourth with seven and Paige Wexell, fifth with five.

Ridgewood had 822 digs for the season with Brooklyn Wexell leading the squad with 235. Miller finished second with 107; Medley, third with 94; Brooks, fourth with 90 and Schmoll, fifth with 68.
