Collins leads Ridgewood girls basketball at Orion

Ashley Collins led the Ridgewood Lady Spartans in a non-conference varsity basketball game against host Orion Monday, Dec. 10.

Collins and Morgan Green also lead the team in rebounds having seven each. Molly Jo Smith finished the night with six and Katie Miller had five.

Orion outscored Ridgewood in the opening three quarters, 9-18, 8-22 and 6-19 to win the game, 69-40.

Taylor Brooks dished out three assists. Green had two. Having one each were Sabrina Medley and Smith.

Collins finished the game with three steals. Smith had two and Medley and Paige Wexell had one each.

As a team, Ridgewood had a 20 percent shooting average from the field compared to Orion's 43.8 percent. From outside the field, Ridgewood was 28.6 percent compared to Orion's 40 percent.

Ridgewood was 37.5 percent from the free throw line for the night. Orion was 47.8 percent.

In junior varsity action, Ridgewood was only three points short of Orion, 33-30.

Megan Reed and Katie Miller led the team with nine and eight, respectively.

Ridgewood outscored Orion in the first two quarters, 16-10 and 9-8, but things changed in the second half.

Three Spartans scored four points each. They were Paige Wexell, Taylor Reed and Mikayla Poppy. Olivia McDonough went one-of-two from the free throw line for a point.

Jessie Smith led the squad in rebounds, having 11. Miller was a close second with 10. Wexell had eight.

Wexell dished out two of the the team's three assists. Megan Reed had the other one.

As a team, Ridgewood had 14 steals during the night. Miller and Taylor Reed had four each. Megan Reed had three, Smith two and McDonough one.

Megan Reed also had two blocks and Wexell finished with one.

As a team, Ridgewood had a better shooting period from the field, 29.3 percent compared to 21.2 percent.

Orion was better than Ridgewood from the free throw line though, 28.6 percent to 33.3 percent.
