We used one of these type boats last month in Minnesota. It was way too big at 28 feet long, but it’s all the boat rental place had. The configuration was not met for fishing, but rather partying. However, we made do. Three weeks ago I managed to get up early, drove to DeWitt, and fished with two friends on a new 12 foot pontoon boat that “was” made for fishing. If I reversed the tape and went back to the ‘70s or ‘80s I hope that I would have bought such a craft. Flat floor, bucket seats, and easy access in and out make a pontoon boat a nice choice.
I’m back to doing more fishing. So many hot days kept me away, but I said to myself, “You are not getting any younger, now get out there and win one for the kipper!” Well, something like that. Climate change or not, the September days “have” to start with cooler temps.
If you follow the popular game show, “Jeopardy,” you know already that Mike Richards was nixed to be the permeant host of the show. Evidently the TV “powers-to-be” found that years ago, Richards said some inappropriate, politically incorrect statements. While he will still remain “behind the cameras” with the show, it’s sad that human errors should haunt him or anyone else for years. I guess it’s understandable, but still, there sure are a lot of perfect folks in this world.
Next week, Saturday, September 11th, the Geneseo Izaak Walton Chapter will host their annual public “Ham ‘n Bean Supper.” This event is always a popular one. So, stop down at the Ikes Park, 1 mile north of Geneseo, off Rt. 82, between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m. The cost is $8.00 per person. Chef Kent Anderson and his culinary volunteers will serve up some good chow.
Hopefully, we can’t judge ‘da Bears too harshly from their poor showing against the Buffalo Bills. QB Fields looked good, but the defense looked horrible. Still, it was evaluation time for most of the players. One running back I hope the Bears will use more often is Cohen. Yes, he’s short, but he fights really hard for every inch of ground. In my opinion, the jury is still out on Coach Nagy’s play calling. If they end up with an 8 & 9 season or worse, then Nagy’s two years in row at 8 & 8 should signal his departure.
Whether you’re a Republican, Democrat or Independent, if you get a survey from our representatives, fill it out, mail it back, or complete it on-line. If you pitch it in file 13, our elected officials won’t know how you feel on certain subjects.
John Farrell, alias the “Hazelwood Pharoah, and Vic Bianchetta, the “Maestro,” were having a beer at a local Geneseo pub. It rained really hard the whole day. John looked out the window and here was an old Irishman fishing in the street with a stick and a piece of string dangling in a puddle. Feeling sorry for the man, John went outside and said to the man, “Come in out of the rain, and we’ll buy you a drink or two. After a while, Vic, being a little sarcastic, asked the man how many fish he had caught today? “You’re the 8th,” replied the old Irishman.
