Ridgewood track teams compete at Muggs McGinnis Invitational
The Ridgewood track team managed to squeeze a meet in amongst the frequent rain showers last week.
On Monday, April 18, the team head to Bushnell where they competed in the Muggs McGinnis Relays. Ridgewood placed fourth overall in the girl’s division and fifth overall in the boy’s division, to earned them a fifth overall as a complete squad.
The Bushnell PCAWP Spartans won the women’s division. United placed second; Monmouth-Roseville, third; Galva, fifth; West Central, sixth; North Fulton, seventh and South Fulton, eighth.
In the boys competition, Monmouth-Roseville was first; West Central, second; Galva, third; Bushnell PCAWP Spartans, fourth; United, sixth; North Fulton, seventh and South Fulton, eighth.
Ben Smith, a junior on the squad, earned a first place finish in the shot put with a throw of 47-10. Joe Wallerstadt placed 12th with a distance of 31-7.
The 1600-meter relay team of Kevin Miller, Matt Welch, Kyle Lookingbill and Elisha McCreary also won with a time of 3 minutes and 49.47 seconds.
The girls team of Jessica Nail, Aly Smith, Kelly Franck and Kendall McKie finished third with a time of 5:01.70.
Molly Smith, a sophomore, finished second in the 100-m dash with a time of 13.22. The first place finisher had a time of 13.13.
In the boys triple jump, Ridgewood took third and fourth. Matt Welch had a hop, skip and jump of 36-1 and Aaron Leander was close behind with 35-11. Aly Smith and Kalli Humphrey finished fifth and eighth, respectively, with distances of 28-3 and 26-7.
Jorge Urbina placed sixth in the long jump category with a leap of 16-5. Elisha McCreary finished eighth with 16-4. In the girls competition, Kelly Franck came in seventh in the with 12-9 and Haley Schmoll placed ninth with 11-6.
Kevin Miller finished fifth in the high jump competition, clearing 5-8. Kayla VanWatermeulen was fourth in the girls with a height of 4-6.
Sammi Stevenson and Chelsea Mitro finished eighth and ninth in the girls discus competition with throws of 60-10 and 60-0, respectively.
In the boys competition, Michael Welch placed eighth with a distance of 92-0.
Jasmine Jefko and Hannah Garrett, two freshmen, placed fifth and seventh in the shot put class. Jefko had a throw of 26-1 1/2 and Garrett’s was 25-1.
Matt Welch placed fifth in the boys 100-m dash with a time of 11.58. The winning time was 11.28.
Ridgewood’s girls 3200-m relay team finished fifth with a time of 14:20.44. The boys team was seventh with a time of 11:17.58. Members of the team were Skyler Rapp, Isaak Woodruff, Joseph Shreeves and Brandon Nelson.
In the girls 800 sprint medley, Ridgewood placed fourth with a time of 2:14.51. Members of the team were Caitie Allen, Kendall McKie, Jessica Nail and Kaitlyn Able. The boys team came in seventh with a time of 1:51.61. Team members were Josh Dillman, RJ Dearmore, Philip Engstrom and Preston Sullivan.
In the 400-m girls relay, Ridgewood finished fifth with a time of 1:01.34. The boys placed third with a time of 47.43. Members of the boys team were Aaron Leander, Jorge Urbina, McCreary and Matt Welch.
Ridgewood placed sixth in both the boys and girls distance medleys with times of 6:39.99 and 4:28.92, respectively. Members of the boys team was Sullivan, Mike Welch, Shreeves and Christopher Bowles.
Savannah Walker finished fifth in the 1600-m run with a time of 9:06.75. Julian Trotman came in fifth with a time of 5:46.59.
In the 800-m relay, Ridgewood placed fifth in the girls and boys divisions with a times of 2:14.43 and 1:40.85, respectively. Members of the boys team were Leander, Urbina, Ryan McLaughlin and McCreary.
The team of Smith, Humphrey, Nail and Katie Stevenson placed second in the girls distance medley with a time of 12:00. The boys team of Sullivan, Mike Welch, Shreeves and Bowles finished sixth with 11:10.02.
Ridgewood’s mixed 400-m relay team came in fifth with a time of 1:04.32.
In the mixed sprint medley, Ridgewood finished fourth with a time of 1:56.36. Leander and Urbina were the boys on the team. No girls names were given.
