Saturday, April 30, the Spartans baseball team hosted Stark County in a double header.

Game one saw the Spartans let an 8-1 lead after three innings slip away, by not making plays when needed and mental lapses on the field and at the plate.

With the Spartans leading 8-7 in the seventh inning a crucial miscue had the Rebels score a run to knot it at 8-8. After a lead off double by Dusty Werner in the bottom of the seventh had things looking up only to have a flyout and a double play line out send the game to extra innings.

Stark County took advantage of their second life and touched Ridgewood for eight runs. In the bottom of the eighth the Spartans mounted a comeback that fell short taking the loss 16-13.

Chad Leathers picked up the loss in relief. Tyler Waugh had a big game at the plate going 4-of-4 with four batted in. Also with multi-hit efforts were Dusty Werner, Dustin Johnson, Nick Ragan and Leathers.

Game two saw another game that was also a game of comebacks. The Rebels held a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the third and that’s when the Spartans bats came to life sending 11 players to the plate, scoring six to grab their first lead at 8-6.

The Spartans never trailed again winning the contest 12-10.

Werner pitched all seven innings for the win.

Johnson, Tyler Nimrick and Leathers each recorded a double and Ragan added a triple.

Waugh, Ragan, Alex Main, Werner, Leathers and Noble had a multi-hit game.
