Ridgewood boys' track competes at Mercer County Invitational

    Ridgewood’s boys track team competed in the Mercer County Golden Eagle Invitational Wednesday, April 27, at Sherrard. The boys finished eighth in the 10-team field with 22 points.

    Rockridge and Mercer County shared the title with 95 points each.

    Matt Welch took second in his heat of the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.41 seconds. In the finals Welch took third overall with a time of 11.20. The Mercer County Muske twins finished first and second with Cameron having a time of 11.00 and his brother, Cale with a time of 11.10.

    Welch also finished 12th in the 400-m run with a time of 56.90.

    Joseph Shreeves finished 16th in the 800-m with a time of two minutes, 46 seconds.

    Julian Trotman was 11th for the Spartans with a time of 5:23.90 in the 1600-m run.

    In the 3200-m run, the Spartans best finisher was Christopher Bowles at 13:17.00 for 14th place.

    The 400-m relay team of Cody Anderson, Elisha McCreary, Ryan McLaughlin and Kevin Miller finished eighth with a time of 49.00.

    The 1600-m relay team took fourth place with a time of 3:41.00 Members of the team included Kyle Lookingbill, Philip Engstrom, McCreary and Miller.

    In field events, Ben Smith was Ridgewood’s shining star as he won the shot put with a distance of 46-3 1/2.

    Ryan McLaughlin placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 18-1 and    Matt Welch finished sixth in the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 37-10.

    Joe Wallerstadt was the top Ridgewood finisher in the discus with a toss of 92-0, good for 14th place.
