Smith qualifies for state track meet

Molly Jo Smith won three events during the Dale Collis Track and Field Invite Tuesday, May 10, at Galva. Smith won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.4 seconds. She finished first in the 300-m hurdles with a time of 49.8 and the 200-m dash with a time of 29.1. Smith won the 300-m hurdles at the Sherrard Sectional Friday, May 13, and competed at the state meet in Charleston Thursday, May 19.

    Ridgewood Spartans girls’ track team participated in the 2011 IHSA Girls Track Sectional Championship on Friday, May 13, at Sherrard High School, and after 18 events received a 12th place team finish, along with a state qualification in the 300-meter hurdles thanks to sophomore Molly Smith with a second place finish and a time of 48.10 seconds.

    Smith also finished third in the 100-m dash with a time of 13.0, seventh in the 200-m dash, and was on the twelfth place 4x200-m relay team with Kalli Humphrey, Alexa Anderson, and Aly Smith.

    Senior Jessica Nail contributed two points to her team with a 2:34.4 fifth place finish in the 800-m run, as well as placing 14th of 29th runners in the 1600-m run. Nail also tallied up another 14th place ribbon as her 4x400-m relay team comprised of her, Kelly Franck, Kalli Humphrey, and Kendall McKie ran a time of 4:49.

    With a throw of 33-3 Jasmine Jefko took home a fifth place medal, while junior Aly Smith snagged eighth place in the women’s triple jump with a hop, skip, and a leap of 30-10. Smith also earned another eighth place finish in the 400-m dash with a time of 1:08.60, and an 11th place finish in the 200-m dash, crossing the finish line in 29.10.

    The hosting Sherrard Tigers won the Sectional Track Meet with a cumulative score of 120 points.
