Maplettes make an impression at camp

The Maplettes traveled to Universal Dance Association camp at Wheaton College, in Wheaton, June 27-30.
Geneseo High School dance team performed a home routine which was choreographed by the Maplettes’ seniors Sara Kibler, Madison Koustas, Kayla Miller, Mallareigh Moser, Sarah Ramp and Isabel Sierra.
The home routine performance placed them third in their category of medium varsity.
During the camp, each dancer learned and performed three more routines across varying categories such as pom, hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, and kick.
At the end of the week, each dancer was evaluated on each of their routines in small groups in front of the entire camp. All 14 Maplettes received blue ribbons (the highest possible) for all of their routines.
The squad had an opportunity to send up to six members to try out to be part of the UDA All-American squad.
Four of the Maplettes made the team, and Geneseo’s Sierra, Miller, Kibler and Bailey McKean have the opportunity to travel to Philadelphia, Pa., to dance in the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
At the final awards ceremony, the Maplettes dace team was awarded a Superior trophy, as well as an 110 percent award which was voted on by the Universal Dance Association staff for a squad with outstanding effort and spirit reflected throughout the week.
