Galva's Reece Hoxworth makes a layup while avoiding a charging call during Tuesday night's IHSA Class 1A Regional game against United in Oneida, which Galva won 68-53.

With the regular season in the books, the name of the game is survive and advance, as both the Galva and United boys basketball teams faced each other at the ROWVA Regional Tuesday.

A 25-0 run in the first half for the Wildcats proved to be the difference in this game, as they cruised into the semifinals with a 68-53 win over the Red Storm.

"They looked like they finally believed me that United is well coached and have some hard-nosed kids," Galva coach Chance Jones said. "Tonight it looked like they actually believe me to not take them lightly and I am proud of them for that, because United has had a lot of good minutes this year."

After trailing 5-4, the 23-4 Wildcats turned up the defensive pressure, getting steal after steal, allowing the offense to score the final 12 points in the quarter and Galva led 16-5 after one quarter of play.

The run continued in the second quarter, as a pair of threes from David Jeffries and another long distance connection from Rhett Hoxworth made the score 25-5 in favor of Galva.

Reece Hoxworth finished off the run with four straight points to increase the Wildcat lead to 29-5.

In the third quarter Galva used multiple runs and outscored United 24-13 to increase its lead to 56-28 heading into the final quarter.
