Leafs run against the elite at the First to the Finish

The Geneseo seniors have one final home meet. The Geneseo boys’ cross country team finished in 37th place in a 55-team field in the Class 2A race among Illinois’ best at the First to the Finish race at Detweiller Park in Peoria on Sept. 9.

The Maple Leafs’ Neo Colter led the team with a 160th-place finish in 17:10.

Raymond Venneberg came in 218th place in 17:36, and Andrew Rizzo finished in 234th in 17:44.

Colby Rapps ran down 242nd with a time of 17:48, and William Plumley finished in 17:49.

Geneseo’s Rafe Morrison captured 313th in 18:20, and Christian Booth rounded out the Geneseo top seven in 18:21.

In the open race, Thackery Newton led the Maple Leafs’ crew with a time of 19:12.

Geneseo’s Adam Wells followed in 19:21, and Luke Henkhaus finished in 19:40.

The Leafs’ Ky Ariano crossed the finish line in 19:49.1, and Ricky Chavez was just a few steps back in 19:49.6.

Luke Sebastian finished in 20:15, and Will Sammons rounded out the top seven in the open race in 20:47.

The Maple Leafs’ next competition will be at the Geneseo Invitational at Richmond Hill on Saturday, Sept. 16.

The race that is split up into each grade class with start with freshmen races at 9 a.m.
