Maple Leafs win A-W title

The Maple Leafs opened the season with a win at the Sterling Grass Relays and won the Annawan-Wethersfield Invite.
Sterling Grass Relays
The Maple Leafs won the head-to-head battle with Sterling 22-37 at Sterling Hoover Park on Aug. 21.
The Maple Leafs’ Neo Colter and William Plumley finished runner-up with teammates pairing up to run alternating legs of the race.
The duo of Colter and Plumley finished in 34:29, and they were followed by Andrew Rizzo and Justin Johnson who finished third in 35:09.
Spencer Lindstrom and Isaac Kuster finished fourth in 35:22, and Rafe Morrison and Colby Rapps came in fifth in 35:38.
The Maple Leafs’ Ricardo Chavez-Sanchez and Nathan Carroll finished eighth in 38:40, and Malakai Schaad and Bode Neff finished ninth in 39:14.
Geneseo’s Lucas Nicke and Tanner Burgett ran down 10th in 39:19.
Annawan-Wethersfield Invite
Geneseo impressed in the first invite of the year earning the team title at Kewanee Dunes Golf Club on Aug. 27.
With suffocating heat the race was shortened to two miles, Mid-County’s Caelin Foley won the individual title in 11:00.9, and Geneseo’s Plumley finished third overall in 11:16.8.
Johnson earned sixth in 11:30.6, and Schaad finished seventh in 11:31.1.
Lindstrom came in ninth place in 11:33.7, and Morrison finished 11th in 11:39.9.
Andrew Rizzo claimed 14th in 11:50.1, and Colter rounded out the varsity runners with a 16th place finish in 11:56.6.
The Maple Leafs will compete against some elite teams from Peoria at the Galesburg Invite at Lake Storey Park, in Galesburg, on Sept. 1 at 9 a.m.
