Three-peat for Lady Leafs at A-W Invite

The Lady Leafs’ cross country team won the Sterling Grass Relays and won the Annawan-Wethersfield Invite for the third consecutive season.

Sterling Grass Relays

The Lady Leafs’ Josie Brown and Julia Poel teamed up to win the individual title, and Geneseo defeated Sterling 25-30 at Hoover Park, in Sterling, on Aug. 21.

With teammates pairing to run alternating legs of the race, Brown and Poel captured the title in 38:16.

Anna Girten and Lauren Belvel raced to a fourth-place finish in 41:15, and Anna Snyder and Anna Pierce finished fifth in 43:39.

Adia Raya and Megan Soria came in seventh in 45:48, and Emma Terronez and Avery Magerkurth finished in eighth place in 46:59.

Clare LeGrand and Ashton Wolfe ran down 14th in 52:27, and Emma Heller and Joci Hasson finished in 15th in 53.32.

Annawan-Wethersfield Invite

The Lady Leafs won the invite title for the third consecutive season, and Brown earned the individual title at Kewanee Dunes Golf Club on Aug. 27.

With the oppressive heat shortening the distance to two miles, Brown won the individual title in 12:44.7, and Belvel finished fifth in 13:31.2.

Poel earned seventh in 13:32.9, and Girten finished in eighth in 13:35.6.

Pierce landed 15th in 14:38.1, and Magerkurth finished 16th in 14:40.7.

The Leafs’ Snyder finished 17th in 14:47.5.

The Lady Leafs will compete against some elite teams from Peoria at the Galesburg Invite at Lake Storey Park, in Galesburg, on Sept. 1 at 9 a.m.
