Mid-County golfers open season with win

Led by 43 from medalist Kaden Willer and 44 from Trey Rogers, the Cougars defeated the Rebels in Monday’s season-opening match at Oak Run.
Also counting for the Cougars were Noah Thompson with 50 and Tristan Rogers 51.
“We lost a ton of experience from last year’s team, but our returning players — led by Kaden and Trey — played well and we got a great contribution from freshman Noah Thompson,” said Mid-County head coach Mike Landis. “It was a nice start to a season that features seven freshman newcomers out of our 10 players.”
Riverdale 154, Ridgewood 171
In a season-opening battle between two teams that played in the Class 1Astate tournament last season, the defending state champion Rams topped the Spartans Monday at Valley View.
Riverdale’s Anthony Ruthey was meet medalist with a 1-under par 35.
Thomas Bumann paced Ridgewood with an even-par 36. Also counting for the Spartans were Ganon Greenman with 43, Wyatt Moriarity 44 and Nicholas Gainey 48.
In the JVmatch, Riverdale edged Ridgewood 208 to 212. Ridgewood’s Wiley Hart shared JVmedalist honors with 49.

The Spartans finished second in Tuesday’s triangular at Emerald Hills Golf Course.
The host Comets won the meet behind a round of 34 from medalist Jacob Rude.
Ridgewood’s four counters were Thomas Bumann with 38, Bill Bumann 44, Ganon Greenman 45 and Kyle Barman 49.
In the JVmatch, Sterling Newman prevailed with a 205 total followed by Princeton 216 and Ridgewood 217.
Wiley Hart topped Ridgewood’s JV with 50.
