Maple Leafs win on Senior Night

The Geneseo boys’ golf team hosted Moline for a dual on Senior Night on Aug. 30.

The Maple Leafs’ Derek Johnson continued his breakout season finishing with medalist honors and leading the Maple Leafs to a win at Sugar Maple Golf Club.

A Sophomore, Johnson finished with four pars and a birdie on hole No. 9 to finish with a 39 and win the honor in a card back.

Geneseo handled Moline in the team competition for a 159-179 victory.

Seth Winchell fired a 39 with four pars and a birdie.

Geneseo’s Zach Henderson finished with a 40, and Danny Ford carded a 41.

The senior duo of Ty Johnson (42) and Kaden Rink (43) were not far off the medalist pace.

The Maple Leafs’ JV team impressed shooting a 179 team score.

The Maple Leafs were led by senior Colton Garcia who fired a 42.

Chase VanKlaveren and Ian Phillips each carded a 45, while Shane Lievens finished with a 46.

Aaron Matthews tallied a 53 and Tim Lehman finished with a 54.

The Maple Leafs’ next rounds will be at the Pekin Dragon Classic at Lick Creek Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 15.
