Lady Leafs win rematch on the pitch

Geneseo’s Heather Dietrich netted two goals and an assist and the Lady Leafs earned a 5-2 victory over the Pioneers at the Alleman Athletic Complex on March 28.

In a rematch between the two teams that faced off in the regional championship last season, Geneseo grabbed the momentum early.

After falling behind 1-0 midway through the first half, the Leafs’ Keeli Frerichs scored the equalizer with an assist from Jenna Decker.

Dietrich gave Geneseo a 2-1 halftime lead scoring on a pass from Paige Gramling.

In the second half, Dietrich scored unassisted to give Geneseo a 3-1 cushion with about 10 minutes remaining.

However, Alleman closed the gap with a score from Taylor Carter just a minute later.

Geneseo’s Gramling and McKenzie Davison stepped up shut down any thoughts of a comeback.

Gramling scored unassisted, and Davison scored with an assist from Dietrich.
