Geneseo takes down L-P on the pitch

The Maple Leafs competed at the Urbana Tournament and started Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference play with a victory over LaSalle-Peru.

Urbana Tournament

The Maple Leafs opened the tournament with a 4-2 loss against Mahomet-Seymour Friday night, on Sept. 1.

The Maple Leafs’ Brandon Gallagher scored to give the Leafs an early lead, but M-S tied the game by halftime and added three more goals in the second half.

GHS’ Reed Vanderheyden scored late in the second half with an assist from Jordan Seeley.

With action picking up again on Sept. 2, Geneseo earned a bounce back 4-0 victory over host Urbana.

Geneseo’s Ethan Holke scored with an assist from Griffin Tracey.

A senior, Tracey found the net just a few minutes later to take a 2-0 lead.

The Leafs’ Gavin Minnaert scored, and Geneseo’s pressure on offense forced an own goal.

In the final game of the tournament, St. Thomas More topped Geneseo 2-0.

LaSalle-Peru at Geneseo

The Maple Leafs opened NIB 12 conference play with a 4-1 victory at the Geneseo Soccer Pitch, on Sept. 5.

Reed Adams scored the game winner and tacked on an assist for the Maple Leafs.

Geneseo’s Tracey set an early tone finding the net in the 24th minute, and Nick Strouss scored in the second half.

Vanderheyden added some cushion with a second half score with an assist from Tracey.

Geneseo’s next game will be on the road at Rochelle on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
