Lady Leafs are holding court

The Lady Leafs’ tennis team swept Kewanee and DeKalb and competed in the Ottawa Invite.
Geneseo at Kewanee
The Lady Leafs topped the Boilermakers 6-0 in Kewanee, on Aug. 31.
Geneseo’s Bryann Brophy cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles, and Emma Dunker captured a 6-1, 6-4 win.
The Leafs’ Madi Miller and Jane Thomas captured a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, and Ava Bieneman and Mary Thomas picked up a 6-2, 6-2.
Maddie Fitzpatrick and Kaitlyn Webster battled for a 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 victory.
In JV competition, Geneseo’s Gracie Strohm and Grace Verbeck tallied an 8-4 victory, and Rebecca Clementz and Stella Corgan added an 8-3 win.
Kylie Robbins and Lani Moreland picked up an 8-3 win, and Grace Miller and Allison Bowers finished with an 8-1 victory.
Ottawa Invite
The Lady Leafs’ Brophy earned a third-place finish, and Geneseo finished sixth in the eight team competition in Ottawa, on Sept. 2.
Brophy nabbed a third-place finish with a hard fought 7-6 (6), 6-1 victory after being defeated by eventual champion Anna Loureiro in the semifinal round.
Geneseo’s Dunker finished sixth in the No. 1 singles’ competition, and Jane Thomas and Miller landed sixth in No. 1 doubles.
Geneseo at DeKalb
The Lady Leafs swept DeKalb (5-0) in the opening of Northern Illinois Big 12 action for Geneseo, on Sept. 5.
Brophy continued her hot start to the season with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles, and Dunker nabbed a 6-2, 6-4 win.
Miller and Jane Thomas scraped by for a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles, and Mary Thomas and Gracie Strohm tallied a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Bieneman and Webster teamed up to capture a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
The Geneseo frosh/soph team earned a 4-1 victory over DeKalb.
The Lady Leafs’ Emma Clays and Chloe Adams led the way with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, and Brooke Harms cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles.
Alli Miller and Katerina Eilers tacked on a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, and Ali Craig and Emma Slaymaker finished off a 6-1, 6-1 win in No. 3 doubles.
Geneseo’s next matches will be on the road against Princeton at the Prather Field Tennis Courts, on Monday, Sept. 11 at 4:30 p.m.
