Lady Leafs' Furbeck flies at Top Times
Geneseo’s Erika Furbeck has nothing left to prove, but the Top Times Invite was a reminder that Furbeck will be a serious contender for a state track title this spring.
A state runner-up last season, Furbeck nabbed runner-up honors in the Class 2A long jump (18’10”) at the indoor track and field invite that hosts some of the best in Illinois at the Illinois Wesleyan Shirk Center on March 25.
Furbeck’s distance was topped by defending state champion Imani Carothers (19’5.25”) from Chicago Brooks.
While Carothers put up amazing numbers, Furbeck and Geneseo Coach Kyle Morey’s plan of attack this season is to build her up as the season progresses so she peaks at the state meet.
A state medal winning sprinter last season, Furbeck added a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash final in 7.94.
The Lady Leafs’ Alex Horne had a nice debut at the Top Times Invite finishing 13th in the high jump clearing a distance of 4’10”.
The Lady Leafs’ Reece Bodeen finished 13th in the 60 hurdles prelims with a time of 9.75.
