Maple Leafs snare win over Foxes

The Geneseo tennis team lost a dual match against Sterling but rebounded with a win against Yorkville.

The Golden Warriors topped the Maple Leafs 4-1 at the Richmond Hill tennis courts on April 19.

Geneseo’s Ben Ford and Mick Haverland nabbed the Maple Leafs’ only win with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Brandon Gallagher and Dylan Hart fought their way to a third set, but they were defeated by Andrew Ivarson and Henry Steinhagen 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.

In the frosh/soph matches, Geneseo swept Sterling 5-0.

The Leafs’ Danny Ford fought for a 6-7, 6-4, 10-8 victory at No. 1 singles, and Timothy Lehman cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win.

Ryan Morgan and Carter Stephenson earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, and Joe Beeth and Tannen Rink nabbed a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles.

GHS’ Thomas Robinson and Mason Smith didn’t drop a single game with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.

Geneseo at Yorkville

The Maple Leafs bounced back with a 4-1 victory against the Foxes on April 24.

Mason Miller battled his way to a three-set win after dropping the first set.

A freshman, Miller picked up a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles.

Gallagher and Haverland teamed up for a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, and Ben Ford and Hart claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Patrick Turpin and Luke Chaney cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.

In frosh/soph competition, Geneseo edged Yorkville for a 3-2 victory.

Lehman nabbed the No. 2 singles win 6-4, 6-0, and Morgan and Stephenson picked up a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles.

The Leafs’ Robinson and Smith battled for a 6-3, 7-5 No. 3 doubles victory.
