No hurdles to big for Maple Leafs
After just missing the state qualifying times at sectionals last season, Colton Pischke is starting the season like a runner possessed to make a push for a state track berth in the hurdles.
A senior, Pischke won the 55-meter hurdles at the Cuffy Early Bird Invite Indoor Invite in 8.13 at Knox College in Galesburg on Feb. 22.
A returning member of Geneseo’s fifth-place 4x400-relay team, Pischke helped lead the Maple Leafs’ 4x400 relay to a runner-up finish alongside teammates Kaden Rink, Luke Sebastian and Billy Cosgrave.
Another returner with state experience, Rink had a nice showing in the 800 finishing third in 2:11.97.
Geneseo’s Zach Wilson had a great start to the indoor season winning the high jump by clearing 6’, and the Leafs’ Jaycob Norton finished third with a height of 5’6”.
Jordan Seeley earned a runner-up finish in the 55 dash with a time of 6.96, and Mason Jones claimed third in the long jump with a distance of 19’2.5”.
Geneseo’s 4x800-relay team of William Plumley, Spencer Lindstrom, Justin Johnson and Colby Rapps finished fourth with a time of 9:05.82.
Alex McAvoy earned fourth in the shot put with a throw of 39’11”, and Geneseo’s Nate Clark-Holke and Andrew Verplaetse each cleared 10’6” in the pole vault to finish in the top five.
Geneseo’s Lindstrom ran down fifth in the 1600 in 5:00.02, and 6. SR Nathan Carroll finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 35’10.5”.
The Maple Leafs’ 4x200-relay team of Seeley, Parker DeSplinter, Logan Hansen and Jerry Green finished sixth in 1:45.57.
Sebastian earned sixth in the 55 hurdles, and he finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 18’9.75”.
Jones finished sixth in the 55 dash in 7.15, and Hansen finished seventh in the 55 dash in 7.22.
The Maple Leafs’ Tucker Ziegenhorn grabbed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 38’6”, and Matt Kozemski finished 12th with a throw of 36’8”.
The Leafs’ Gavin McGuire earned 17th with a throw of 34’11”, and Rob Stohl wasn’t far behind with a throw of 34’9.25”.
Noah Johnson earned 20th with a throw of 34’4”, and Garrett Toom landed 23rd with a throw of 33’4.5.”
