Lady Leafs runner-up at Geneseo Invite

Geneseo won their home opener against rival Rochelle, topped Galesburg, battled LaSalle-Peru and finished runner up in at the Geneseo Invitational.

The Lady Leafs won their home opener in a three set battle 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, in Geneseo, on Sept. 7.

Geneseo’s Breanna Smith led the team with 10 kills, and Lily Gerth tacked on seven kills and four digs.

The Leafs’ Hannah Adams and Rachel Daniels notched 13 assists each, and Elli Weller finished with 10 digs.

Emily Pobanz had six kills, and Hannah Himmelman finished with five kills and three digs.

Geneseo’s Alex Horne finished with two kills and three digs.

Maggi Weller tallied five digs, and Lauren Henderson finished with four digs.

Geneseo at Galesburg

The Lady Leafs continued to pick up wins with a 27-25, 25-15 in Galesburg, on Sept. 11.

Himmelman put away eight kills, and Maggi Weller finished with 14 digs.

Caitlin Gilmore added seven digs, and Adams finished with a team high 15 assists.

Daniels tacked on eight assists and three digs, and Breanna Smith finished with five kills.

Mariah Smith and Henderson each notched six digs, and Pobanz finished with three kills and six digs.

The Leafs’ Gerth finished with four kills and two digs.

Geneseo Invite

The Lady Leafs finished runner up with a 3-1 record at the Geneseo Invitational, on Sept. 9.

Geneseo lost the deciding game to champion Wethersfield 25-19, 25-8.

LaSalle-Peru at Geneseo

Geneseo took the Cavaliers to a third set but fell short of a NIB 12 conference victory, in Geneseo, on Sept. 12.

Gerth and Himmelman provided the offense combining to tally 21 of Geneseo’s 33 kills.

Himmelman finished with 11 kills and six digs, and Gerth finished with 10 kills and four digs.

Maggi Weller was everywhere on defense finishing with 31 digs.

Geneseo’s Daniels tallied 19 assists, and Adams finished with 13 assists.

Breanna Smith tacked on five kills and two digs, and Henderson finished with seven digs.

Gilmore notched six digs, and Pobanz finished with three kills and three digs.

The Lady Leafs invite the community to pack the place for a special home game against Ottawa, on Sept. 26, starting at 5 p.m.

Throughout the night, the Geneseo volleyball boosters will be holding a bake sale and a 50/50 drawing with the proceeds going to fight Parkinson’s Disease.

The Geneseo volleyball team will also celebrate the program’s future by recognizing the efforts of the middle school volleyball team, and the Lady Leafs’ varsity players will sign autographs after the game.
